10 Money Saving Starbucks Hacks

May 14, 2018 in Budgeting

Starbucks

America’s favorite guilty pleasure. As delicious as their coffee and teas are, they are also on the pricey side. Especially if it is a daily habit.

Those lattes can add up over time, and the last thing you want is to blow your retirement on coffee (unless you are investing in it). If you are a coffee addict and just can’t seem to get enough of Starbucks, well here are a few tips to help you save money.

While it may not be $3 off a single cup, in most cases, you can save $.60 or a little more.

10 Money-Saving Hacks for Starbucks

1. Bring your own cup.

Did you know by bringing your own cup, you can save around $.10? If you didn’t now you know. So keep one in the car with you.

2. Starbucks rewards

Get a free drink on your birthday through this program.

3. Starbucks Card

If you frequent the coffee shop, you may already have this. Simply register for this free card and it comes with several perks like:

Free refills in store

Free drink on your birthday

Free drink or food after every 12 purchases

personalized coupons

4. Make it short

Starbucks is the only place where tall is short. But there is also short which is smaller than tall. (Did you catch all of that?). The short is cheaper than the tall, and although it isn’t listed on the menu you can still order it. Save a cool $.80 by going short.

5. Order a grande in a venti cup

Simply request that your grande drink is put into a venti cup instead of the grande cup. This is great if you have added milk or whatnot to your cup. At least you aren’t having to pour anything out.

6. 50 cent

Not the rapper, but the refill. If you don’t have a Starbucks Rewards card, you can always just pay a small amount for a refill. However, make sure you get it before you leave!

7. Water

Don’t buy the overpriced bottled water. Instead, opt for tap water—it’s free.

8. Go for the regular drinks

Starbucks has several drink options on their menu that are less than $4. Expand your taste buds and try something new. You may just discover something else to fawn over.

9. Ice Ice Baby

Order a venti triple espresso over ice, add milk and viola! You have a latte.

10. Two for the price of one

Order two tall drinks instead of venti. A Venti is about $4, while the tall is $3. If you order with a friend, you would have only paid $2 for each tall drink.

Great tips! Especially the one about getting the grande in a venti cup – I’m sure they’re liable to maybe give you a bit extra by accident in addition to not having to pour anything out!

These are great tips. I actually don’t drink coffee, but I end up at Starbucks for a lot of meetings, so I can probably apply some of these to hot chocolate. ?
