Christmas is a wonderful time of the year to get kids involved in learning how to give back to others and to appreciate the things that they have. Having four young kids, every year I try to come up with creative ways to get my children involved in giving back to our community.
Get Involved in Charity Work
There are a plethora of charities that require help during the holiday season. Whether you want to help serve food to the homeless, pack food boxes or ring kettlebells, there are a many ways to get your family involved in giving back this holiday season.
One of our favorite traditions is to help serve food on Thanksgiving and/or Christmas. If you are unable to volunteer, your family can also adopt a family or child for the holidays and buy gifts for them.
Out with the old, in with the new. The holidays are the perfect time to go through toys that your children no longer play with, and pack them up. Donating toys to local charities, daycares, etc; is a great way to not only downsize the items you have but help out local places in your community that may be in need of gently used toys.
Visit the Elderly
This holiday season you can also take your family to visit the elderly at nursing and retirement homes. Your family can take gifts to residents who may not receive any visitors to help brighten their day this holiday season.
Buy Gifts That Help Others
‘Tis the season of giving. Show your kids how they can give gifts to their friends and family that help others, an excellent lesson on the true value of Christmas. Your loved ones get a beautiful present and a portion of the proceeds can go to sick children, anti-hunger projects, literacy groups and less fortunate children around the world.
Ever since I was a little girl I remember eagerly anticipating the delivery of the GIANT Sears Wish Book. I used to love laying on the living room floor with my pen and paper writing down my favorite items and adding them to my list to give to Santa.
Every year the Wish Book has signified a tradition of just taking the time out to enjoy picking out gifts for loved ones and appreciating all of the little moments that we have to spend with one another. Looking through the Wish Book has become even a tradition that my children look forward to every year.
This year Sears has reinvented the Wish Book reclaiming its place as the definitive source for hundreds of gift options for every family member. Now through November 25th, EVERYTHING at Sears is now 10%-50% off. 50% off of items such as furniture, tools, and accessories; along with 40% off of clothing and footwear. Talk about major holiday savings! Another plus, the Wish Book offers convenient access via mobile and online to help shoppers easily find quality gifts at www.sears.com/wishbook, as well as through the Sears app.
