The Mr. works long hours every day. There’s usually not much down time in his day, by the time he comes home the children are usually at their peak. Finding ways to unwind after a long day at work was challenging for a while. But now that the kids are older they are starting to understand dad needs 15 minutes to himself when he walks in the door.
Now if you read this and say “I don’t need to unwind, I love spending every waking moment around my children,” then this post isn’t for you. But for those of you that need some tips to help make that transition from workday to home, less stress then keep reading.
6 Ways to Unwind After a Long Day at Work
- Read a good book.
- Take a shower.
- Play with the kids.
- Go for a walk with your dog.
Reading is one of my favorite things to do. Obviously, my book reviews should give you some insight into that. There are so many books out there, literary fiction, self-help and yes, even picture books that are perfect for calming your mind and helping you relax.
Whenever I’m looking to get my creative juices flowing, I love to read children’s picture books. Happy Dreamer by Peter H. Reynolds is quite possibly one of the best children’s books on the market when it comes to sparking the imagination. Known for his uplifting and positive messages, Peter H. Reynolds’ books are a great way to wind down in the evening. Plus, the kids may even want to sit down and listen for a few minutes. It’s a win-win for everyone.
I’m also one of those people that come home and don’t mind making a pot of coffee in the evening. Sometimes I just need a small little boost to get through the tail end of the evening. If that’s not your thing, try some hot tea. Or wine.
