7 Creative Ideas for Memorable Day Trips With Your Kids

January 13, 2022 in Travel

We love taking quick day trips with our kids. It’s one thing that is a must for us at least once a month! These experiences allow us to connect and just have fun together as a family without all the distractions of electronics and the hustle and bustle of life.

If you have the time, for families with more than one kid, taking a day trip with each child separately is also a great way to spend quality time alone with each one!

Keep reading for some incredible ideas on where to go and how to make the getaway really memorable.

All of these activities offer a bit of adventure, bonding, and an experience neither of you will forget. Plus no matter what you love, there’s something for everyone, too — from camping to shopping.

If you are looking for fun family activity ideas to check out in your local city or town, text “ATL FAM” to 47537 for on-demand recommendations!

Go for a hike.

This was an unexpected love for our family. It’s a calming excursion and one where you can really take time to explore your surroundings. Find local trails, pack lunches, and explore. You can also journal your experience and document what you see on your hike.

Visit a nearby town.

Go for a short drive to explore the nearest town (or even a town further away) and visit everything there. Check out the town’s parks, sweet treat shops, and restaurants. Stop in the town’s visitor center to make sure you know about all the hidden gems.

Go on a bike tour.

If you love to be active, here is another fun activity you will enjoy. There are many towns that have beautiful bike riding trails. Check them out and map out a route, and go on a bike tour with the family!

Experience farm life.

Whether its a local farm or small petting zoo, spending time with animals is a favorite for many kids (and adults). See if there are local animal sanctuaries or farms where you can pet and feed the animals. You can also check out farms that have fruits, veggies, or flowers to pick; classes to take, and maybe even dinners to enjoy.

Head to the big city.

A drive to the city is always an amazing experience for us. There is so much to explore and if you find the right places, it can make the experience really incredible. Delve into a big city within driving distance from you, and plan your day trip so you can enjoy all of it.

Head to the beach.

This is a day trip that never disappoints. Whether it’s the beach or the lake, there is something about experiencing the water that is just relaxing and serene.

Go on a food tour.

Even if you have a picky eater (or multiple ones), this is a perfect way to expose your kids and self to new foods, as well as try old favorites with a twist. A food tour through neighboring towns is a really neat idea. Although you will need to do some prep work in finding the restaurants and sweet shops that will appeal most to your kid, It’s definitely worth it!
