More and more it seems as if family dinners have become more of a luxury than the standard every night activity that sort of just happens. Busy work schedules for parents, after-school activities for the kids, take a toll on how much time many families can have with one another.
There have actually been scientific studies that talk about the benefits of families eating together. One study cited in the Pediatrics journal found that kids who enjoyed family meals were less likely to experience depression.
Families who regularly had meals together had a stronger bond with one another. Also, those who cook at home save more money in the long run, as we all know how expensive it can be to eat out with a large family. The most important fact, however, is that families who ate together made better overall choices in regards to the food that they ate.
For someone like me who works hard to ensure that I am feeding my family quality meals on a regular basis, this is a major plus for me, as I know that modeling these habits in front of my kids is extremely important.
But when it comes to cooking dinner, I often struggle with trying to figure out what to make.
I don’t know about anyone else, but there are days in our home where our dinner meals are completely monotonous. Between Taco Tuesday, lasagna Wednesday, and pizza Friday, it can be a struggle to come up with a creative twist to our favorite family meals.
My kids have meals that they enjoy and I know my family well enough to understand what is safe to try and what I need to stay far, far away from.
For me, making meals creative means taking ingredients from our tried and true favorites and turning them into quick and easy meals, that are completely different from what we are traditionally used to.
When I want to jazz up a traditional meal, I love heading to my pantry to grab No Yolks Broad Noodles.
Its versatility is what makes this the perfect go to if you want to get creative in the kitchen. As we head in to fall, No Yolks makes the perfect addition to soups like Miso or French Onion; even a great midweek meal like Sriracha Cheesy Noodles and Noodles with Kale and Walnut Pesto.
Many of our favorite mid-week meals are comfort foods.
