How to Handle Your Taxes Like A Pro

This post is sponsored, however, all opinions are my own.

Let’s face it, no one likes to do taxes. But unfortunately, it’s something that has to be done year after year.

I have been doing my taxes on my *completely* own for the last 14 years. I know that isn’t a long time, but I remember the first time I ever filed, we still had to mail them in. Thank goodness technology has come a long way since then!

Now that I have been the workforce and self-employed for quite sometime, I have gotten a hang on it. But like so many other Millennials I actually overpay when it comes to filing my taxes, ouch!

The $200+ I spend yearly to file my taxes starts to add up over time.

Don’t be like me. Do better…

Millennial’s & Taxes

Nearly 74% of Millennials say they are stressed when it comes to filing taxes. The top three things that are looked for when filing are ease of use, security and cost.

You would think that the computer generation wouldn’t rate ease of use as #1, but do you blame them? We are a generation of convenience. We want to get things done as quickly as possible, without having tons of hoops to jump through.

But for Millennials, the biggest misconception is that we have to pay big bucks just for access to that convenience.

The United Way and H&R Block have teamed up to help people file their federal and state taxes for free! If you are an individual or in a household earning less than $66,000, then you qualify to use MyFreeTaxes .

This means everyone in that income range from the 9-5’ers and the young entrepreneur. With 70% of Americans qualifying for free tax filing, there is no reason for you not to see if you qualify!

How does it work?

MyFreeTaxes is so easy to use that you simply take a photo of your W-2 and upload it to have your information automatically filled in. In fact, it’s so simple that most taxpayers are done within an hour. Sounds like a major win!

But I don’t really understand how to do taxes period, what if I need help?

Don’t worry about getting stumped or not understanding something. MyFreeTaxes provides live support to its customers in both English and Spanish. Between now and April 30, 2018, you can chat with experts from 10am-10pm EST, Monday thru Friday; and between noon and 9pm EST on Saturday. You’ll have access to the help you need, when you need it.

Eh, I would really prefer not to do it online. Can I still take advantage of this service another way?

Of course you can!

For those who would prefer to file their taxes in person, they can visit a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site. VITA site location information is available on or by calling: 1-855- My-TX- Help.
