How We Choose A Dentist for Our Kids

August 1, 2018 in Lifestyle

Thank you The Smile Generation for sponsoring this post. Contact The Smile Generation today to see how they can help you and your family become healthier and happier!

I love the bright, beautiful smiles that I see on my kids’ faces every morning they wake up and throughout the day. Having four kids keeps me extremely busy, so I have to make sure that I meticulously plan out everything, from playdates to after-school activities and even appointments.

Their smiles are important to me

Even at a young age, my children understand the importance of having a great smile. It plays a part in their confidence. This is why I take complete care in making sure they have regular visits, and that it’s with a provider they are comfortable with.

When it comes to taking my kids to the dentist, there are a lot of different things that I have to consider.

Someone who can educate us on different techniques, as well as proper care

I know the basics of caring for teeth. My kids range in age from 3-14, and each one has varying needs. So, it’s important that we have a dentist who can help us feel confident that we are adequately meeting their needs. I’ve learned it’s more than just saying “make sure they brush their teeth after dinner.” When you have an independent three-year-old who doesn’t want help, it’s great to have someone “teach” you how to do it, while still fostering that independence.

Clean, friendly environment

As parents, we always want to feel that we are ensuring our children get the best care possible. Having an environment that is clean and friendly is definitely one way to help ease a parent’s mind when they first enter the building.

Good with kids

Being the parent of toddlers and an autistic ten-year-old boy, it’s important that I can find someone who is good with my kids and able to manage their different personalities. It’s most important to me that my son is comfortable during his visit.

The Smile Generation

Dental treatment for a family of six (soon to be seven) can get very pricey. The Smile Generation is a referral service that helps parents find trusted local dentists right in their community. The My Smile Dental Plan is a discount dental plan that allows its members to have exclusive access to the treatment they need at discounted rates.

With access to more than 650 Smile Generation®-trusted offices across the country, this means that we don’t have to worry about having limited options for treatments. Offices provide a wide range of services including orthodontics, teeth whitening, and even emergency appointments if needed. Pediatric dental offices are staffed with specially trained providers in pediatrics and orthodontics and offer a kid-friendly environment.

What tips do you have for finding a dental provider for your family? Let me know in the comments below!
