Let’s be honest, pregnancy can be beautiful. But what’s not so beautiful it the amount of weight that I have gained. We are happily expecting my fifth child and needless to say, the weight has come on much faster this time than in previous pregnancies.
Of course, it can be due to a variety of factors (most importantly my age), but it’s still something that makes me feel down in the dumps..just a bit.
With my first three pregnancies, I was in my twenties, so dropping the weight was much easier. But the older I have become, it seems that I have become more cognizant of how society says that a pregnant women’s body should look. I want my body to be as a strong and beautiful as the next person; however, I shouldn’t feel obligated to drive myself crazy during this special time with ensuring that it happens.
Remember when Giselle walked the Victoria’s Secret runway six weeks after giving birth? What about Beyonce’s 5-week post-baby photo shoot in 2012? While it’s important to take care of your body during pregnancy, it’s also important to make sure we are sending the right messages as a society, about how women should look and feel in their own body.
How to Maintain Your Confidence During Pregnancy
Focus on the bigger picture
Here’s a hint, not your body. You’re bringing a life into this world in a just a few short months. Focus on everything you need to take care of before his/her arrival, and bask in the awesome that pregnancy has to offer (even those moments when you are hugging the toilet).
Wear your bump with pride
Big bump, or little bump, be proud and show it off. Don’t try and cover it up.
Upgrade your wardrobe
If your wardrobe is a little blah when you aren’t pregnant, use pregnancy as a way to be daring and take risks! Normally you would never catch me in bold bright colors, but this time I decided to take some major risks!
