This version of the Harriet Tubman story by Megan Callea for the @ourlegendaryladies is very well written featuring beautiful illustrations by Jennifer Howard. The text itself is very easy to read, with my kindergartener being able to get through the pages fairly easy.
This version of the story itself provides a good bit of information and is presented in a way that is easy for children as young as five to understand while keeping older children such as my nine-year-old interested throughout.
I find that the illustrations perfectly complimented the text as they were bright and colorful when needed and then dark and intimate when also needed. In my opinion, the illustrations conveyed the mood and feeling one should get when reading lines such as “so when she could, to freedom she ran.” I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
