Our Simple (and Easy) Family Breakfast Playdate in the Park

This summer I have had to get creative when it comes to getting my kids out the house, and having fun. The 102+ degree weather has had us trapped in the house after 9 am for the last few weeks.

One idea that my husband and I came up with is taking the kids to the park early in the morning, and having breakfast. This gives the kids a chance to get out much-needed energy (even at 7 o’clock in the morning), and plus it’s a great way to start our day out right as a family.

What we love about our breakfast playdates

There are two major pluses to our family breakfast playdates:

It allows us to be present

So often we are running around getting things together for the kids, cleaning up after the kids, and doing a host of other things that have a tendency to take our attention away from our kids. As parents, we deserve to sit down and just live in the moment. Taking them to the park allows us just that. Breakfast is already cooked at home and set up at the park takes less than 5 minutes. This way my husband and I can really enjoy time with our littles.

It allows us to get outside as a family

With the weather being as hot as it has been, there hasn’t been much outdoor playtime. This makes it so that we can do so before everyone (including my very pregnant self) collapses from the heat. Getting kids (and adults) outside, is shown to reduce stress levels, makes us happier, as well as optimize brain development.

Plus kids just love to be outside.

Our Waffle Bar

We like to keep it simple. Our kids absolutely love waffles. What better way to serve up a little extra fun at the park, than with Kellogg’s Eggo Homestyle Waffles. We love that Eggo waffles now have no artificial flavors and colors from natural sources. It’s a favorite of our kids, and as parents, our philosophy is to always go with what we know!

Our breakfast bar also included:

Banquet® Brown’N Serve™ Original Sausage Links

There is no better compliment to waffles than sausage links! Banquet Brown’N Serve is the perfect savory way to start your morning off right!

Reddi-wip® Original Dairy Whipped Topping

Are you ready to “Unleash the joy?” I love how creative we can get with this simple, yet tasty whipped topping for our waffle treat!

Frozen DOLE® Sliced Strawberries

These are perfect for everyday snacks and recipes. This is why it’s our go-to for our breakfast bar! My kids are strawberry fanatics! It gives the waffles just the right amount of kick that they need!

Pop-Tarts Frosted Strawberry

If you have never tried crumbled up Pop-Tarts on a waffle, you definitely should! One of our favorite things to make is Waff-aco’s (as my kids call it). Frosted strawberry Pop-Tarts are the perfect topping. It’s just enough to dazzle all of our taste buds and make us dance with delight!

Maple Grove Farms Pure Maple Syrup

This sustainable great tasting syrup goes along great with the waffles and sausage!

Minute Maid® Orange Juice

Made from perfectly ripe, natural oranges, this timeless and delicious juice is the perfect compliment to your morning breakfast!

Minute Maid® Apple Juice

Everything that we purchased for our Waffle Bar can be found right at your local Wal-Mart! Don’t forget to check out Wal-Mart’s online grocery pickup!
