I briefly home-schooled Alyssa and Andrew for nearly two years. Those were the hardest, yet most rewarding years of my life. So naturally when it came to Isla and Sarah, I’ve decided I wanted to start the process earlier. Since they are only 2 and 3 years old however, I’ve decided to take the unschooling approach to learning with them.
Unschooling will give the girls and myself the opportunity to learn and explore together, without necessarily being stuck at a table or in front of a tv. Unschooling allows me to be able to incorporate various resources to teach the girls. I have spent the last several days teaching Isla how to right her name. It’s been difficult, but she is trying so hard and I am very thrilled with her progress thus far.
As far as a curriculum is concerned, I don’t really have one at this time. Right now we are taking it slow. Isla already knows all of the alphabet, counts to 50, knows shapes and colors. So a lot of what I am I doing is just a review for her, as I go through it with Sarah. Isla is having more time spent working on fine motor skills (cutting, and holding a pencil).
