Simple Self-Care Rules Every Mom Should Follow (Plus My Ultimate self Care Treat)

June 22, 2018 in Self-Care

Whether you are a working mom or a stay at home mom, taking care of your needs should be the top priority. As mom’s we always ensure that we are taking care of everyone else’s needs, but when it comes to our own, we always come last. It seems like holidays always sneak up on me. The best part about the upcoming holiday season is that my birthday falls in between now and then. As part of our self-care series, I wanted to do a guide that showcased some of my favorite self-care products

It’s not that we purposely neglect ourselves, sometimes there just isn’t enough time in the day to get everything done. So working out, putting on makeup and getting dressed, taking a hot bath, or curling up with a good book just don’t seem like an important task. As a matter of fact, they seem like impossible tasks to complete.

If mom isn’t happy….

You know the rest. If mom is stressed or burnt out, everything around her suffers. Children even respond when they see that mom is tense by acting out or being extra fussy.

Since we already know that it’s not always easy to get in self-care on a consistent basis, take at least ten minutes each day to do something that will make you feel good. Whether it’s the bath, a walk, or even cooking your self a good meal, do it. Pay attention to your own needs.

Remember…other people are just as capable

Rule number one of motherhood should always be:

Don’t become a martyr!

I see so many women refuse help from others because they want to do it all. Guess what? You don’t have to be superwoman. Not only is it not healthy, but you have to consider how your support system may feel (obviously if you don’t have one this does not apply). I have seen so many women say that they won’t “allow” their husbands or significant others to change diapers, feed the baby or do this or that. This prevents them from learning the skills needed to help lighten the load needed to help you.

It’s okay to NOT do it all. It’s okay to take a break.

It’s okay to want time to relax.

Now that I have gotten on my soapbox about why self-care is important. On to the next part.

It seems like holidays always sneak up on me. The best part about the upcoming holiday season is that my birthday falls in between now and then. As part of our self-care series, I wanted to do a guide that showcased some of my favorite self-care products

My favorite self-care treat

Nothing makes me feel better than looking good. It’s not that I am trying to look good for anyone in particular, but I love the way it feels to throw on a cute dress or some jeans and high heels.

What makes me feel even better, is getting my eyebrows done. Coming from someone who had a portion of their eyebrow accidentally burned off, having them shaped and filled in makes me feel like a supermodel!

I recently had the chance to visit Waxing The City and it was the best experience ever. Karen was absolutely amazing and answered all of my questions, and was so thorough in going over each and every step of the process! This was my first time having my eyebrows waxed, so I was a bit apprehensive at first, but she made the process a wonderful experience and I can’t wait to go back!

However, for the last few months its been difficult to get in a visit with our move from Boston back to South Carolina, I haven’t had the opportunity to get it done. (Picture the half Chewbacca eyebrows-it was seriously bad).  I knew that before I headed out for my solo mom-cation to New Orleans, that I needed to get my brows done-ASAP!

Before leaving for my trip, I had the chance to visit Waxing The City and it was the best experience ever. Karen was absolutely amazing and answered all of my questions, and was so thorough in going over each and every step of the process! This was my first time having my eyebrows waxed, so I was a bit apprehensive at first, but she made the process a wonderful experience and I can’t wait to go back!

Karen explained that the wax used is specially formulated for their business. When she placed it on my eyebrows it automatically hardens, which makes it easy for the technicians to pull off. That means none of the screaming you get with regular hot wax and paper.

Brows are just as important as erm..every other part

A good shaping can really change your entire look. I notice that my face looks brighter whenever I get them done. The Waxing The City Cereologist are brow experts, so I know they are in good hands. Plus they offer a wide range of products to keep our brows look beautiful on a daily basis!

I’m just keeping it real

As much as I love my husband’s 5 O’clock shadow, I promise you, he doesn’t love mine!

If you are apprehensive (or embarrassed) about the influx of hair (especially in certain areas), don’t worry! Making you comfortable is what they do best! The techs at Waxing The City have seen their fair share of hair. Every length, shape, color, and size that you could possibly think of. So don’t worry about looking like Bigfoot’s long lost sister or brother. They have done more than a half-million Brazilians, so you have nothing to worry about!

Want to give Waxing The City a try? First-time visitors get 50% off of their first service! Call your nearest location today so you can enjoy a care-free HAIR-FREE summer!

Psst…guess what, they provide men’s services too! Bring him with you!

I was selected for this opportunity as a member of CLEVER and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.
