White Chocolate Red Velvet Popcorn

January 25, 2018 in Food

I 100% love popcorn. When I was a kid my youngest uncle was a only a teenager (there was a ten year age difference between us) and he worked at a local movie theater. I would get so excited when he would take us to work with him and one of the smells that I remember was extra buttery movie theater popcorn!

It sounds so weird to even say that out loud (and the fact that I am ridiculously excited about that memory), but it was one of the major highlights of my childhood (that and we literally sat in the theater and watched The Little Mermaid 4 times in one day while he worked-but don’t tell my mom!).

We love our family movie nights. This week I wanted to switch things up again with my sister’s Red Velvet Popcorn recipe. Valentine’s Day is approaching and I thought this would be an awesome Valentine’s Day themed snack for the family to enjoy. Of course we won’t be watching sappy love stories with the kids, but we may watch “Beauty & the Beast” since it was such an exciting film!

10 cups popped popcorn
2 1/4 cups white melting chocolate
3 cups red velvet cake crumbs
1 1/4 tbsp Crisco

Add popcorn to a large mixing bowl.
Add Crisco to saucepan, stirring until melted. Slowly add white melting chocolate stirring slowing. (Be careful and make sure the chocolate doesn’t stick or burn). Remove from heat.
Stir in white chocolate with popcorn, mix until completely covered.
Pour popcorn on baking sheet and cover with red velvet cake crumbles. Gently toss until covered, set aside until the chocolate has hardened.
